Have you ever heard the following myths? Adolescence is a new phenomenon. In the olden days, people were adulting by the time they reached their mid-teens. Today’s adolescents are navigating an unnatural stage of life. The foundational worries of today’s parents of adolescents are new. The church has only recently begun focusing on adolescence/adolescents. The reality is that adolescence (the life stage) and adolescents (the people) have been discussed, depicted and decried for centuries. In this seminar we’ll take a rousing romp through what society, parents and preachers have been saying about teenagers for the past five hundred years, and we’ll discuss why this is important for us to know today.
